Catching Up With America’s Next Top Model in Season 13
America’s Next Top Model is a hit reality show starring supermodel Tyra
Banks. In this TV competition real people from every walk of life are
given a chance at a modeling contract. The series follows a group of
women who are competing for the grand prize, and each contestant comes
from a different background. Models of all shapes and sizes duke it
out as we observe the transformation of these ordinary women into
supermodel sensations.
Tyra Banks is returning as host for the 13th season (the show
originally launched in 2003) and will be guiding these aspiring models
through a modeling boot camp. Contestants will win not only by
continuing to look beautiful and graceful but also by demonstrating
their inner beauty. These women will have to perform complex catwalks,
complete intense physical exercise and master publicity skills all the
while under 24-hour surveillance of studio cameras.
The panel of judges this year includes supermodel Paula Porizkova,
runway expert J. Alexander and photographer Nigel Barker. Jay Manuel
is returning as the producer of all photo shoots. Special guest judges
are also expected to appear this season. In Season 13 or Cycle 13,
audiences can expect a special “twist.” This season will feature all
contestants to be shorter than the standard model size. Whereas in the
past, contestants had to be over 5 foot seven, this year all requires
have to be 5'7'' or shorter. This is indeed a twist, especially
considering that the average runway model stands at least five foot
eight—and especially because in the past seasons, some contestants were
eliminated because they were too “commercial” (aka short) for the
runway. This season may very well reach new “heights” in 2009-2010!
America’s Next Top Model is produced by 10 by 10 Entertainment and
Bankable Productions. Tyra Banks is the creator and executive producer
and works with Ken Mok and Daniel Soiseth on bringing the show to television.
