Toast The Next Iron Chef in its Second Season
The Next Iron Chef is actually a spin-off of Iron Chef America and was
devised as a limited series on the Food Network. The first season,
comprised of six episodes, saw eight chefs from around the country
battle it out (with spoons and mixers of course!) and assume the title
of Iron Chef. The entire concept of the show revolved around the idea
that the winner would replace a departing Iron Chef, which was revealed
in Season 1 to be Mario Batali. The first winner was Michael Symon.
Last season, the first five challenges took place at the Culinary
Institute of America and then Munich, Germany and Paris, France for the
final two challenges. The last challenge took place at the Food
Network studios. For the second season of the show, premiering in
October 2009, there will be ten chefs in competition. They include
chefs Seamus Mullen, Dominique Crenn, Brad Farmerie, Nate Appleman,
Roberto Trevino, Amanda Freitag, Jehangir Mehta, Eric Greenspan, Holly
Smith and Jose Garces. The best chefs in the western world are
represented here, hailing from New York, California, Washington,
Pennsylvania and even Puerto Rico.
This season will take the cooks across the world, from Los Angeles to
Japan and to New York. Host Alton Brown returns as host again though
the panel is made up of some new blood. Vogue staff writer Jeffrey
Steingarten and Slow Food Nation director Anya Fernald return to the
panel joined by last season’s resident expert Donatella Arpaia. This
reality show challenges the greatest chefs from around the country in a
variety of demanding tasks, which promise to test their culinary
skills, not to mention their mental prowess and tenacity.
Catch all of the oily, herbal and spicy fun on the Food Network,
Sunday, October 4 at 9pm/8c.
